2006-2024 music box & musical art
Woodstock (original image)
Ungraded 2022 mounted on a stretched Canvas Frame. In 1970 while in college in Madison the version of Woodstock I knew was by Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. This song was on their album Déjà vu, a favorite album of mine. Their music confirmed my taste preference for the melodic style of Rock music . For this artwork I choose to go with the original version by Joni Mitchell that I only learned of recently.
J S Bach Minuet in B minor BWV 1067
Music Box CS 2020: J.S. Bach- Suite No.2 in B minor, BWV 1067: Menuet mvt. 6. This song is short so it repeats all parts, I like the Tempo of this version. I picked this minuet for its simplicity and because the entire song has a number of “hooks.” that kept my interest.
Like A Rock 2018
Like a Rock is a small work, 30 inches by eight. My choice of brown and black fits the classic rock look seen in the images of Bob Seger. The colors silver and gold are also a good choice that you can see in these album covers:
J S Bach Orch. Suite No.2 Minuet BWV 1067
Music Box CS 2020: This is a companion piece to another Bach Minuet from Cello Suite No.1 in G major. These two works are my first free canvas artworks. What that means is that neither artwork is stretched on a frame. To display I attach them to a aluminum frame that contains the music system and can then be wall hung.
J S Bach Minuet in G major BWV Anh. 114
Music Box CS 2020: This is a companion piece to another Bach Minuet in B minor. These two works are my first free canvas artworks. What that means is that neither artwork is stretched on a frame. To display I attach them to a aluminum frame that contains the music system and can then be wall hung.
Please Come Home For Christmas
Music Box CS 2020: This is the last Christmas painting in the Series, No. 15,
I Will (Private Collection)
Music Box CS 2020: There are two versions of this artwork. This one was a wedding present.
J S Bach Cello Suite No.1 in G major The Prelude BWV 1007
Upgraded 2022 mounted on a stretched canvas frame. The original artwork is dated 2020. This may be the first of my artworks where my arrangement of the music greatly changed the look of the artwork. For example, this Bach music is for a solo Cello. My arrangement adds other instruments including drums.
Beethoven's 5h Allegro con brio
2022 ≈ L68"xH48"xD8" The artwork samples those famous first 8 notes.
Your Song
Music Box CS 2022 The piano is the foundation that carries the cover music for Your Song. While the violin, viola, flute and the added clarinet are the voices of this music.
Martha My Dear
Upgraded 2022 mounted to a stretched canvas frame for support. The original artwork is dated 2021. This is the last in a line of "free canvas" (not stretched) artworks started in July 2020 with a Bach Minuet.

You Were On My Mind
Music Box CS 2021: This image shows my graffiti words from the song, on top of Prussian Blue topcoat, that I then scrapped away to review the base paint.
Play That Song
2021 ≈ L72"x46"xD4" When standing back from the artwork and seeing the words, the thought came to me: I was looking at graffiti.
After the Gold Rush
Music Box CS 2021:
This melody is a classic rock artwork. The lyrics tell a disjointed (poetic?) story I find hard to follow. Although the meaning of the words are cloudy , the strength exists in the melody that pulls the song together. This style of this music is country/folk rock 'n' roll, with a touch of Gospel. The results are lyrics that are haunting, although I don't know why.
Mozart Serenade No. 13
Music Box CS 2018: With this mini artwork I can see that I am under the influence of the earlier artwork, also a Mozart piece, Rondo Alla Turca. In past mini artworks my notes would be all one color and the stems all a gray, but with this project it is all about color diversity.
Mozart Sonata No.11 Turkish Rondo 2018
Music CD CS 2018: This is one of the earliest music boxes. Before this artwork I thought that 230-year-old Classical Music needed to be painted black and brown. Maybe this came from looking at Mozart’s manuscripts. This music is also known as the Turkish March, the translation of Alla Turca. I used brighter colors once I listened to the astonishing speed of this music. Rondo refers to music that is to be played fast.
So What
Music Box CS 2017:
So What, consists of 9 canvases for a length 70 inches. The largest canvases are only eight by ten inches. I am looking at this artwork to be a directional changed. Once again, I am on the move with the inspiration being Jackson Pollock and his abstract painting Blue Poles.
Where Have All The Flowers Gone
Music Box CS 2019: This music is one of my greatest hits, from the Early Years. I am guessing, but I believe it was the Kingston Trio version of this song that created my connection.
Satisfaction 2017
My first contact with the music of the Rolling Stones was their early album from 1965 that my brother bought: December's Children. On this album where two memorable songs, for me, As Tears go By, and Get Off my Cloud. That turned out to be the last Rolling Stones album I held in my hand. As I have mentioned, I was a Beatles fan in the sixties.
Stairway two Heaven 2017
This artwork Stairway to Heaven, is composed of three canvases 56 inches in length by 24 inches. Over the years I have considered, but never felt convinced, to paint this great rock classic song, or any other music by Led Zeppelin. I now realize that this avoidance reaches back to the day that my musical connection became personnel. I was a sophomore in high school and on Sunday, February 9th 1964, the Beatles, made their first black and white television American appearance, on the Ed Sullivan show.
The Water is Wide 2017
This Scottish folk song The Water is Wide has origins that are hundreds of years old. Pete Seeger first popularized the song in the Folk music era.
Vivaldi 2 Cellos RV 531 2017
This music and the artwork are this Artist's Theme work and song. Song
Sound of Silence 2016
I painted this artwork soon after my trip to New York City tht I visited once again with my best friend. The more urban colors come from that city's many visuals.
Two canvases L60" x H15"
Will the Circle be Unbroken
This is a early country music classic released by The Carter family, with Mother Maybelle Carter in 1935, the titled Can The Circle Be Unbroken.
Walking in Memphis (Private Collection)
This was an important early music box, that I spend a lot of time searching out public domain images I could use. I priced this artwork high. It still sold.
Africa
Music Box CS 2019:This artwork’s look comes from more than the usual amount of internet research that included the Serengeti, Mount Kilimanjaro, African music, and African fashion. Like Toto, at the time of the music’s release, I have never been to Africa. Sound included with the marimba being the main instrument. H32" x L51”
Twinkle Little Star by Mozart
Twinkle Little Star. This artwork’s music comes from Version 5 of Mozart’s piano composition KV 265. This music comprises twelve variations of a French Folk song and the music for the children’s song Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.

At Last 2010
Comment from Blog: My Daughter thought it would look good in a Mexican restaurant, and my wife commented last week that for the first time she could picture this painting hanging in a museum.
Two canvas panels L120" x H36"
Time after Time 2010
Comment from Blog entry: I do like the way this painting finished. The colors and balance is solid and I like the words. I tried to take only those words from a song that can have their own meaning not attached to the music.
Two canvas panels 24 inches by 8 feet.

I have sold more canvas prints of this early artwork then another, including a 32" version shipped to Japan for a hotel.

Bach Adagio BWV 1014 2014
The first artwork created for the Gran Bach Hotel in Kyoto Japan. They rejected this artwork because of the green color. At the time too stubborn to change colors, I recreated an entire new artwork, Back BWV 1065, in a weeks' time, still meeting the required timeline. H52" x L86”
All About Soul 2014
This was my 2014 Birthday painting that I started and finished all in one day on my Birthday.
Blue Rondo à la Turk 2013
From my Blog: Blue Rondo á La Turk is composed of 8 canvases that contain a piece of the music, that when arranged, as you see in the images above, produce the flow of one of Dave Brubeck's greatest Jazz pieces.

Fine & Mellow 2015
From the Blog: Fine and Mellow words and music by Billie Holiday. It was Billie's performance on live TV in 1957 that convinced me to paint this music. In this video Billie Holiday sings, accompanied by Ben Webster, Lester Young and Coleman Hawkins, Vic Dickenson, Gerry Mulligan, Roy Eldridge, Doc Cheatham, Danny Barker, Milt Hinton, and Osie Johnson. These are a lot of great jazz musicians all backing up Billie Holiday.
Three canvases L53" x H24
Sweet Little Angel 2015
From my Blog: Sweet Little Angel will be remembered for the first work to use wooden cutouts for the flow of the music. This great Blues tune, painted in a variety of blue colors, gives this artwork a overall looked that matches its genre, enhanced by the center panel with its contrasting tints of magenta.
Two stretched canvases with wood enhancements, L40" x H28"
Ghost of Tom Joad 2015
From my Bog: The name in the title ‘Tom Joad,’ comes from the main character in the book Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck that is set during the Depression. Bruce Springstee said "…..If Woody Guthrie were alive today, he would have a lot to write about, high times on Wall Street, and hard times on Main Street.”
Artwork consists of three canvases, L46" xH26"
Embraceable You 2015
I liked the upbeat version of Embraceable You from the 1943 movie Girl Crazy sung by a young Judy Garland. This artwork comprises four canvas panels over sixty-four inches and is larger than planned. My decision to add extra words increases the artwork’s size.
Take Five 2014
Take Five is classic music by Dave Brubeck, that I originally painted early in my music career, back in 2006. I made this version as a gift to the University of Wisconsin Marathon music department.
Up On The Roof 2013
Sold artwork. I like this music. I think over time that the music holds well. The words say something that many people can relate to, and the melody is catchy. Finally, the timing was right. This song played on iTunes, and I became curious about it. I learned that Carole King, another old favorite of mine, co-wrote it.
Keep On Loving You 2013
Commissioned Artwork:
Since this is a 80's music I thought I would start this work using a color pallet from that time. When I think of the eighties colors like Mauve, Seaform green, Plum, Harvest gold, and Cerulean blue, pop up. This artwork does not have a totally nostalgic look, for I am kind-of a color wanderer.
Beautiful Day 2013
This artwork was my 2013 birthday painting that I started and finished on my birthday. Thankfully, I abandon that practice. “I was so much older than I younger than that now.”
Burgundy Shoes 2016
From my Blog: This song is personal. When listening to this music, I think of my daughter and my granddaughters. It also reminds me of a young boy who, a long time ago, rode the bus home from school.
Two canvases H20" x L60"
Mon Coeur s'ouvre á ta voix 2016
From my Blog: The opera ends when Delilah responses to Samson's words “Dalila! Dalila! Je t’aime!” heard in the first two verses of the Aria, with these words, “Samson! Samson! Je t’aime!“ (Samson! Samson! I love you!) in the final 22 bars of the stage Aria where Samsung joins Delilah in a duet. H26" x L66"
Waymore Blues 2016
From my Bloig: This is my first artwork based on a Country song by Waylon Jennings’s entitled Waymore’s Blues. This is another of many examples that the root of America’s music originates from the Blues, including Country. This Artwork is 20" by 60" in length.
Mr. Brightside 2016
From my Blog: I painted this song after watching a musical video tribute. I saw the camaraderie which brought back memories of when I lived and worked in Northern Wisconsin. Title of the video on YouTube is "County Kerry Bar Sings ''Mr Brightside' to Remember Lost Friend Ger Foley" Artwork H20"x L60"
Three Little Birds 2016
From my Blog: The depth of Bob Marley goes well beyond his musical talents. His influence on Reggae music, his strong belief in Rastafari, his use of ganja, and his political effect on the people of Jamaica have all made him a larger than life personality. This artwork is nothing more than a simple tribute to the music of one of his more uplifting songs.
One Canvas L36" x H18.5, with wood and rope enhancements.
I'm Already There 2017
One canvas 37 inches in length by about 22 1/2 inches in height. An artwork on stretched canvas with wood enhancements.
When Doves Cry 2017
From my Blog: When Doves Cry is my second artwork dedicated to Prince. I decided to do another Purple painting, because reluctantly, I sold the first.
Three canvases about 50 inches in length by about 26 inches in height. An artwork on stretched canvas with wood enhancements, and aluminum.
While My Guitar Gently Weeps 2017
From my Blog: This artwork gets its inspiration from George Harrison’s Fender Stratocaster named Rocky.
Two canvases with aluminum and wood features. Length 37.5 inches x 18 inches in height
Cherish 2016
From the Blog: Cherish, is a wonderful song about unrequited love, that made it relevant in the 60’s and I believe it still holds today. That is one reason I painted it. Many of my artworks I complete reflect the times I grow up. Cherish is one of those 3 minute songs that have given hundreds of hours of remembrance, and reflection to many of us. Sometimes it is good to look back, laugh at yourself, and realize how far you have come. You envy your youth in those days, but know that the best is yet to come.
This artwork comprises two canvases 15 inches by 60 inches in length.
Ave Maria 2016
Of the different versions of this song this one written my Franz Schubert probably is the most well know, sung by the soprano singer Maria Callas. That is not the version used for this painting. I prefer this aria of Ave Maria composed by Vladimir Vavilov in 1970, and attributed later to Guido Caccini:

Running Down a Dream 2017
I pick his song Runnin' Down a Dream for many reasons, but mostly because I thought of it as a wonderful car driving song.
Chopin Polonaise 2017
Commissioned Artwork sent to Kyoto Japan.
I found the meaning of polonaise to be a dance of polish origins.
Please Remember Me 2017
Back in the early 2000s, working at Best Buy, and going to school, I heard what I thought was this music playing on a Best Buy promotional CD. In 2017, I painted this music but soon realized that I had the wrong country song. On that long ago Best Buy promotional CD the song I remembered was actually I’m Already There, by Lonestar.
Its so Hard to Say Goodbye 2016
This is a tribute Work to my Father
Under Pressure 2016
The painting consists of three panels with a height of about 25 1/2 inches, by about forty-six inches in length.
Love Song 2017
This music was released in 1989. The 80's where a time that I was busy so my appreciation of music was hit and miss. The only music I am sure to remember, from that time, came from Prince and Madonna. That sums up the 80's. I heard Adele's 2011 release of Love Song, it sounded familiar, but I did not know why.

In The Mood 2017
n the Mood, is a big band classic from Glen Miller & his Orchestra. This song topped the charts for 13 weeks in 1940. I remember playing my Mom's 33 1/3 albums on the console record player when I was young. That is when I first heard the big band music, of Glen Miller, and Tommy Dorsey.
Bach Chaconne 2017
This Bach melody seems to have been cutting-edge in its time which fits well with the many experimental styles of Miles Davis. Chaconne uses a support canvas that is only is eight inches by twenty-four in lengt`h.
I's Already There 2017
Back in the early 2000s working at Best Buy, and going to school, I heard this music playing on a Best Buy promotional CD. Later when it was replaced I used it as a testing CD when I worked at the Best Buy Tech bench.
